Sept ‘09 Meeting: What’s Groovy About Flex & Grails?

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Meeting Date: September 23, 2009 from 8:00pm-9:00p,

Meet us at UAT (http://www.gotoandstop.org/?page_id=9) from 7:30 to 7:55 in time for seating and networking.

Meeting Summary

Are you tired of server configurations? Are you tired of mapping web services just to communicate to your Flex app? Are you tired of creating database tables and SQL queries to retrieve information? If so… come out and see how Flex with the Grails Framework might be the perfect solution for you.

During this meeting we will introduce a new way to create RIAs using a RAD framework called “Grails”. Using  the Grail’s plugin  architecture, we will install the Flex Remoting components, setup a simple database using “GORM”, and build a simple Flex Application to save and retrieve data from the database.

For anyone interested in getting their feet wet on the server side or might be a CF person looking at learning a thing or two about Java, this is the perfect meeting for you. Grails is a “Java” based framework, but you use a language called “Groovy”. Groovy is very similar to Javascript and it is very easy to learn. I recommend this meeting for all levels of Flex, PHP, or CF developers! If you are a Rails person… you might not like it. ;)
